Abstract

A study is made of the Stark effect on the high resolution electronic absorption spectra of formyl fluoride (HFCO) and difluorodiazirine $(CN_{2}F_{2})$. The transition involved is $n-\pi^{\ast}$. From splittings of the rotational $^{p}P$ lines (using polarized exciting light) the dipole moment of the excited $\pi^{\ast}$ is determined. In addition the Stark effect is used as an aid in the assignment of the $CN_{2}F_{2}$ rotational spectrum.
