Abstract

A formulation of relativistic multichannel quantum defect theory is presented. The relativistic random phase approximation1 is used to determine ab initio values of the eigenchannel parameters for isolated closed shell atoms. As an application of these relativistic techniques we analyze the line-profiles, angular distributions and spin-polarization of photoelectrons within the Beutler-Fano resonances2−4 for neon, argon, krypton, and xenon.
