Abstract

The spectrum of BaS was recorded by laser excitation spectroscopy with a single-mode ring dye laser operated in the region of 6200-6500 {\AA}. BaS was produced by reacting Ba metal with CS, in a Broida oven and the laser induced fluorescence was detected with a photomultiplier tube mounted on the oven chamber. Over 15 new vibronic bands were discovered at low resolution and a high resolution analysis of several of these bands will be presented. A few of these bands show evidence of perturbations by other low lying electronic states.
