Abstract

We have studied energy transfer in the $B^{3}\Sigma_{u}^{-}$, state of diatomic sulfur, selectively excited to the $v^{\prime} = 4$, $N^{\prime} = 40$, $j^{\prime} = 41$ level. The cross-section for quenching of this level, by collisions with ground state S2, was found to be approximately 120 {\AA}$^{2}$, Quenching, as well as rotational and vibrational energy transfer, has been observed upon the addition of argon and will be described.
