Abstract

The index of refraction of pure liquid benzene has been measured in the 2 to 22 micron region using an interferometric technique developed by Kagarise and $Mayfield.^{1}$ Combining these data with the known dispersion results for the visible region Permits an evaluation of the absolute infrared intensities of the benzene fundamentals in the pure liquid. This is done by fitting the Kramers dispersion $formula.^{2}$ The results are compared with the known absolute intensities in the gas phase.
