Abstract

Infrared spectra of high temperature $MF_{2}$ (where $M = Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn$)---species isolated in rare gas solid matrices (neon and argon) have been obtained. Bond angles were calculated from measurement of the isotopic shift of the asymetric stretch $(\nu_{2})$ frequency with isotopes of the central metal atom for $Ti, Cr, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn$ and these angles were found to vary from $120^{\circ}$ for $TiF_{2}$ to $\sim 150^{\circ}$ for $ZnF_{2}$. The data are correlated with the number of d-electrons of $M^{2+}$.
