Abstract

The specular reflection spectra of pure liquid $\alpha$-substituted napthalenes in the region 4500 {\AA} to 2100 {\AA} have been obtained. Comparison of the observed band shifts and broadenings of the spectra of the pure liquids to those of the solution and vapor phase strongly support the presence of excitons in the pure liquids. Further comparison is made to the polarized reflection spectrum of napthalene.
