Abstract

The tunable FIR-laser sideband system has been used to study the H3O+ ion. Experiments have been done near 30cm−1 using a HCN laser and near 45cm−1 using an optical pumped laser. The tunability is achieved by mixing the radiation of a klystron with that of one of the lasers. Rotational transitions were observed near 30cm−1 while transitions have been found near 45cm1 which we have preliminarily assigned to the inversion splittings in H30
