Abstract

Raman spectra of the $SbF_{6}-, AsF_{6}-$, and $BF_{4}-$ salts of $ClF_{2}^{+}$ show that the revised vibrational assignments and force constants reported recently$^{1}$ are incorrect. The bending frequency is $385 cm^{-1}$. Similarly Raman spectra show that the symmetrical structure reported for the $ClFCl^{+}$ $cation^{2}$ is incorrect. A strong Raman line at $744 cm^{-1}$ not seen in the infrared shows that the cation is the unsymmetrical $ClClF^{+}$. The $Cl_{3}^{+}$ cation is described and simple valence force field constants are given for all three cations.
