Abstract

Raman spectra of the SbF6−,AsF6, and BF4 salts of ClF2+ show that the revised vibrational assignments and force constants reported recently1 are incorrect. The bending frequency is 385cm−1. Similarly Raman spectra show that the symmetrical structure reported for the ClFCl+ cation2 is incorrect. A strong Raman line at 744cm−1 not seen in the infrared shows that the cation is the unsymmetrical ClClF+. The Cl3+ cation is described and simple valence force field constants are given for all three cations.
