Abstract

The integrated intensities of the $A_{2u}$ and $F_{1u}$ fundamental bands in liquid $C_{6} H_{6}$ and $C_{6} D_{6}$ were determined by analysis of the anomolous dispersion curves for these liquids. The intensities for the $A_{2a}$ modes at $673 cm^{-1}$ and $496 cm^{-1}$ in $C_{6} H_{6}$ and $C_{6} D_{6}$, respectively, are 14 350$\pm$110 and 8,600$\pm$$110 cm^{-1}$$cm^{2}$/millimole. Intensity sum rules are used to test the internal consistency of these measurements and to investigate factors which effect infrared intensities in liquids.
