Abstract
The profile of the $992 cm^{-1}$ Raman Line of ${C_{6}}{H_{6}}$ has been studied in the pure liquid and in solutions with $CC{l_{4}}$ over the temperature range ${252^{\circ}}$K to ${295^{\circ}}$K. The results confirm that tumbling motions of the ${C_{6}}{H_{6}}$ molecule in the pure liquid are in the rotational diffusion limit. With increasing $CCl_{4}$ concentration, these motions approach the free rotor limit. Support is found for Griffith’s view that an unusual vibrational relaxation mechanism operates in ${C_{6}}{H_{6}}-{C_{6}}{H_{6}}$ collisions.
