Abstract

Laser excitation spectra of the first lines of the [16.6] 1-X0- transition of and $^{154}SmO$ and $^{152}SMO$ have been obtained at sub-Doppler resolution at electric field strengths up to 10kV/cm. Data obtained with the laser polarised both parallel and perpendicular to the field yielded information on $\Delta$M=0 and $\pm$ 1 transitions. The results, which show that there is significant $\Omega$ - doubling in the [16.6] 1 state, were fitted to the Stark Hamiltonian for each state yielding dipole moments for both states and an accurate $\Omega$ - doubling parameter for the [16. 6] 1 state. The results, including anomalous behaviour of the $^{154}SmO$ isotopomer, will be presented and compared with theoretical calculations.
