Abstract

Results of electron beam excitation of flowing nitric oxide at pressures varying between 0.1 and 3.0 mmHg are reported. A systematic examination of the NO($\gamma$) system has resulted in the determination of quenching cross-sections for the beam induced radiation. The analysis of relative band intensity levels permits determination of relative vibrational transition probabilities, as well as excitation cross-sections. These results are applied to the problem of determining number density concentrations in air at high temperatures. Observations in the near infrared have shown the presence of Feast (I) and Ogawa systems, as induced by the electron beam. Some identification features are discussed.
