Abstract

The conceptual analogy between the autoionization and the dissociation process suggests an application of the MQDT to interpret diatomic predissociation linewidth patterns. To this end I have translated Child’s $description^{1}$ of predissociation in terms of crossings of potential curves for vibrational motion into the current version of $MQDT,^{2}$ in accordance with an earlier suggestion by $Fano.^{3}$ Details of the analytical development and possible applications will be presented.
