Abstract

The spectra mentioned in the title were obtained with a grating giving $2-cm^{-1}$ resolving power. The amount of water vapor penetrated varied from .0045 to .081 centimeters of precipitable water. This was pressured by $N_{2}$ at pressure varying from 2 to 64 centimeters of mercury. The geometrical path length was 625 feet. The vapor was at room temperature. The spectra were predicted from pure rotation line strengths supplied us by Dr. W. S. Benedict, using a constant half-width of $0.02 cm^{-1}$ for all lines. Discrepanies with observations are ascribed to variation of half-width (by a factor of four). A reasonable interpretation of this variation is offered.
