Abstract

Non-linear least squares spectral curve fitting has been used to determine predissociation line widths of the Schumann-Runge bands of $^{16}O_{2}$. Previously obtained results for the absorption cross sections$1$ and molecular $constants^{1}$ were used as data in the fitting procedure. Because the predissociation widths are large compared with the room temperature Doppler widths, Lorentzian profiles were used instead of Voigt profiles. Predissociation widths determined for varioun vibrational levels will be discussed. This work is supported by NASA grant NAG 5-484 to Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory.
