Abstract

The high resolution absorption and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra of uranocene have been measured in the temperature range 4.5 to $20^{\circ} K$. The temperature dependence of the MCD shows non-linear 1/kT dependence characteristic of a nearly degenerate ground state manifold. Several of the prominent features of the spectrum are assigned to ($B_{1{g}}$, $B_{2{g}}$)$\rightarrow$ $E_{3{u}}$ and ($B_{1{g}}$, $B_{2{g}}$) $\rightarrow$ $B_{1{u}}$ or $B_{2{u}}$ excited states.
