Abstract
The relations obtained within the adiabatic approximation for vibronically coupled rotatory strength are considered. Selection rules which obtain are discussed and the phenomena is compared to the appearance of ``forbidden'' character in ordinary absorption. Vibronic circular dichroism bands of (possibly) mixed sign appear as the analog of mixed polarization in ordinary absorption. The potential of the technique for aiding in the vibrational analysis by (circularly) polarized light of molecules in an unoriented state is emphasized. Experimental examples are considered.
