Abstract

We have undertaken a series of vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) measurements on sugars and nucleic acids employing a FTIR spectrometer. A correlation relating the sequential arrangement of hydroxyl groups to the sign of a VCD band near 1100cm1 is noticed from these studies. Also the VCD of 6-deoxy galactose in 1600−1300cm−1 region has revealed a correlation relating the orientation of the methyl group at C6 with respect to that of methine group at C1. These new results and their useful implications will be discussed.
