Abstract

Ab initio quantum chemical studies of the molecular electronic structure of monomeric and dimeric Si-O species indicate that the linear species O-Si-Si-O and Si-O-Si-O are both stable with respect to two isolated Si-O molecules, the latter form being the more stable of the two. Results of calculations on the planar rhomboid strcuture, which has been proposed as a possible dimeric form for Si-O, are also presented. D.L.
