UMI reel 258\The cut illustrates Latimer preaching (in 1549) the sermons printed in the first part of the text. While the pious woman reading at his feet is a visual commonplace of reformation preaching scenes, the figure may also allude to the dedicatee Catherine Willoughby, duchess of Suffolk, a learned supporter of reform and patron of Latimer, in whose household he preached the sermons of part 2. Some copies of this and the following editionsalso contain an engraved portrait of Latimer as frontispiece.
