Abstract

Disagrees with the idea that disjunct occurrences of the persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) and pawpaw (Asimina triloba) represent cultivation in central New York by the Iroquois and concludes that even the unlikely archaeological discovery of persimmon (or pawpaw) seeds would not prove that these fruits were cultivated in New York State prehistorically.
