Abstract
The influence of nonlinear and anharmonic interactions on the lattice resonances of cubic ionic solids has been investigated. The determination of the temperature and pressure dependence of the long-wavelength lattice resonance frequencies of a number of cubic ionic solids has allowed the separation of the thermal expansion and self energy contributions to the temperature dependence of these lattice resonances, and has led to an assessment of the importance of the nonlinear coupling coefficients in the lattice potential and electric moment.
