Abstract

The Raman and infrared spectra of O-$CH_{3}$ and O-$CD_{3}$ isotopes of both methylethylether and methylvinylether have been recorded from $50-500\, cm^{-1}$ in the gaseous phase. Considerable torsional data were observed for both molecules and have been assigned on the basis of equilibria between a low energy s-trans (methylethylether), s-cis (methylvinylether), and high energy gauche conformers. The asymmetric potential functions of both compounds have been calculated. Methyl torsions have been observed and barriers to internal rotation calculated.
