Abstract

The operating parameters of small optically pumped FIR lasers at relatively high pressures have been investigated. In these studies typical dimensions for the Far Infrared Laser are 2mm in radius by 5cm in length. For the 1.2μ13CH3F laser, pressures to a few Torr were used. It is shown that in these lasers the maximum pressure for oscillation is a strong function of CO2 laser pump power. These results will be compared with the parameters derived from our earlier studies of rotational and vibrational collisional processes in 13CH3F.12CH3F and CH3OH have also been studied.
