Abstract

When $\nu_{2} + \nu_{4}$ of $CF_{4}$ is pumped by the 9.4-$\mu m$ $CO_{2}$ laser, stimulated emission on the ($\nu_{2}+\nu_{4}) \rightarrow \nu_{2}$ transition results in many discrete laser lines in the region 605 to $655 cm^{-1}.1$ From the analysis of the $\nu_{2}+\nu_{4}$ $band.^{2}$ the pump transitions can be identified and the corresponding laser transitions predicted. A fit to the available laser frequencies indicates that the band origin of $\nu_{2}$ of $CF_{4}$ is at $435.27 \pm 0.06 cm^{-1}$, and a allows us to predict within $\pm 0.1 cm^{-1}$ the frequencies of almost all $CF_{4}$ laser lines that have been observed to date.
