Abstract
The frequency and integrated intensity of the band due to the carbon-iodine stretching vibration of methy1 iodide was measured in a variety of non-polar and polar solvents. Using Buckingham’s theory of solvent effects, an indication was obtained that the bond moment and its derivative were of the same sign. Significant deviations from theory for the intensities in aromatic hydrocarbon solvents suggested specific interaction between methyl iodide and aromatic solvent molecules.
