Abstract

Solid solutions of $SCN^{-}$ were prepared by heating standard pressed disks of sodium, potassium and cesium halides containing KSCN. Spectra were recorded with a grating instrument and with a Fourier transform spectrophotometer. Frequencies, band widths, and peak absorption coefficients were measured at $300^{\circ} K$ and $77^{\circ} K$. Isotopic shifts have been observed for $^{13}C$ and $^{34}S$. Force constants were calculated, and the matrix effects compared to those observed for the cyanate ion.
