Abstract

“Potential energy curves for $N- N$ interactions corresponding to the $X^{1}\Sigma^{+}_{g}$, $A^{8}\Sigma^{+}_{u}$, $^{6}\Sigma^{+}_{g}$, $^{7}\Sigma^{+}_{u}$, $B^{3}\Pi_{g}$, $C^{3}\Pi_{u}$ and $^{1}\Pi_{g}$ states of $N_{2}$ have been calculated, as well as curves for the $N-N_{2}$ and $N_{2}-N_{2}$ interactions. All calculations have been based as nearly as possible on experimental data, including spectroscopically determined vibrational energy levels, scattering cross sections of atomic beams in gases, and measured vibrational relaxation times. In causes where expermental data were not available, approximate quantum-meehanical calculations have been made. Results obtained by these various methods are remarkably consistent with one another, and are believed to have good accuraey.”
