Abstract

The Raman spectra of the liquid and vapor phases of 2-cyclopropyl-isoprene show an equilibrium between two conformers. The most stable species is assigned as the trans conformer and the less stable species as the gauche conformer. The cyclopropyl ``ring breathing” region was studied as a function of temperature. The relative intensities of the trans and gauche vibrations yield a $\Delta$ H of isomerization of $\sim 240 cm^{-1}$. The spectra were recorded digitally and line shape analyses were performed.
