Abstract

The recent development of optical heterodyne technology has led to the creation of wideband far-IR spectrometers that combine high efficiency and small size. Here we outline two spectroscopic applications of this new techology: (1) Measurement of rotational transitions of HCl, water, and nitric acid under conditions that mirnic the lower stratosphere; and (2) Studies of the vibration-rotation-tunneling spectra of hydrogen bonded clusters in planar supersonic expansions.
