Seated portrait of British philosopher Jeremy Bentham, holding a cane. Text around him reads "Equality advocate for free education, minimum wage, sickness benefits for all, guaranteed work, legal and parliament reform. Dissected in the presence of his friends. His skeleton was reconstructed and supplied with a wax head to replace the original which was mummified. The skeleton was dressed in his own clothes and set in a glass case in the University of London which he established. Jeremy Bentham, 1748-1832." An earlier etching [CMA 2001.034.372] also exists.
