Abstract

Upon 1216-{\AA} photolysis of $CH_{3}CN$ or $CD_{3}CN$ isolated in an argon matrix and excitation of the sample using the frequency-doubled radiation from a YAG-pumped dye laser in the 3360-3240 {\AA} spectral region, a complicated pattern of fluorescence bands which can be assigned to the A-x transition of CNC has been observed. The dependence of the fluorescence spectrum on the exciting wavelength will be discussed, and lifetime data supporting the proposed assignment will be presented.
