Abstract
The spectra of ions have been traditionally very elusive and only a handful of absorption spectra has been reported. We have recently employed the technique of tunable laser induced fluorescence to obtain the spectra of numerous ions. This technique combines several of the advantages of absorption spectroscopy with the sensitivity of emission spectroscopy. Furthermore, it allows the selective excitation of single vibrational and rotational states. Examples of vibrationally and rotationally resolved ion spectra obtained by this technique include $ CO^{+}, N_{2}^{+}, CO_{2}^{+} $, etc.
