Abstract
The use of free jets and nozzle beams appears to have substantial advantages over conventional techniques for many spectroscopic studies. The characteristics of free jets will be reviewed with respect to spectroscopic requirements. Some results obtained using free-jet and nozzle beam sources with a simple microwave spectrometer will be presented.
