Abstract
I will be travelling to Ghana with a group of professors and students from the Department of Dance. This research abroad trip will take place for two weeks, from June 9th, 2024 – June 23rd, 2024. The group and I will be studying West African dance forms with the University of Ghana in Accra and go on field trips to nearby cities to explore more history about the region. When not in classes at the university, I will be conducting individual research focused on water quality and sustainability in the surrounding areas. Since this is an immersive abroad project, I will be fully engaged for the two-week trip and conduct preliminary research before the trip to get the best experience possible. This trip is transformational for my education and life because I will be experiencing West African dance in Ghana, which is part of what I’m studying at the Dance Department at OSU. In addition, I will be able to use my knowledge and curiosity for the environment to explore the similarities and differences with regards to sustainability in Ghana vs. the US and bring that with me as I continue my studies in Ecological Engineering.
