Abstract

The time-resolved resonance Raman technique for structural and kinetic studies of transient cation radicals, prepared by pulse radiolytic methods, will be discussed. By electron pulse irradiation of aromatic molecules solvated in halo-alkanes sufficiently high concentration $(\sim 10^{-4} M)$ of radical cations can be produced in a few nanoseconds to facilitate their Raman observation. The resonance Raman spectrum of diphenylbutadiene cation radical obtained by this method will be presented.
