Abstract

A study has been made of all the observable perturbations that occur when the upper state $(A ^{2}II, v'=v)$ of the red CN system is crossed by the lower state $(X^{2}\Sigma, v^{\prime/prime}=v+4)$. The perturbations are found in all branches, in the following order of increasing $N"":Q_{1}<R_{1}, P_{1}<R_{2}, P_{2}<Q_{2}$. The $Q_{1}$ crossings have been evaluated from the $well-known^{1} v=7, N=13$ through $v=1, N=84$; the $Q_{2}$ from $v=7, N=46$ through $v=4, N=84$. The dependence of the perturbation parameters on rotation and vibration, and the relations of these to the other molecular constants will be discussed.
