Abstract

This paper uses the OLS and Quantile Regressions to describe and analyze the salary difference between economics departments and the agricultural economics departments. We found that the salary distribution of departments of Economics is more right-skewed than that of departments of Agricultural Economics. For both departments of Economics and Agricultural Economics, the impact of demographic characteristics such as gender and race on salary is relatively flat at different quantiles. On average faculty in departments of Agricultural Economics publish more articles than those in departments of Economics, however, the citations of articles achieved by male faculty members in departments of Economics are significantly higher than those of male faculty members in department of Agricultural Economics. As for the citations achieved by female faculty members, there is no statistically significant difference between faculty in departments of Economics and Agricultural Economics.
