The desire to characterize the vapor transport growth of single crystalline germanium using Raman techniques has required that we study the Raman spectroscopy of germanium diiodide. Two bands separated by $230cm-1$ and $360cm-1$ from the excitation wavelength have been observed. This paper discusses the vapor transport experiment as well as the Raman spectroscopy of the vapor phase germanium diiodide.
