The federal government has historically played a major role in funding research at universities, but over the past decade the levels of support have flattened out. Academia is turning more and more to foundations and corporations to supplant those critical resources. However, at many universities, corporate and foundation relations (CFR) is located within the development office and is often "led" by a single person. Indiana University’s evolving approach to integrating a comprehensive, effective, and modern CFR effort in support of research and philanthropy is discussed.
