Abstract

Biographical information on Willard H. Davis, an amateur archaeologist active in the area of Lowell and Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio, is documented. Davis was recognized as the leading authority on the prehistory of the lower Muskingum Valley during the latter part of the 19th C. and provided considerable information to Warren K. Moorehead (Primitive Man in Ohio, 1892). Two brief unpublished archaeological diaries kept by Davis and dating 1879-1881 are also transcribed
