Abstract

High resolution vibrational Raman spectra have been obtained for nitrogen, carbon dioxide $(ν 1)$ , and parahydrogen, under near-critical conditions. Inhomogeneous broadening of the Q branch profiles is observed in all three cases as the critical point is approached along the critical isochore. Analysis of the spectra reveals new information pertaining to critical fluctuations.
