Abstract

The infrared spectrum of the solid, liquid and gas phase of pure $N_{2}D_{4}$ has been measured from 250 to $4000 cm^{-1}$. The Raman spectrum of the liquid has been recorded and depolarization values measured. Assignment of the twelve fundamental vibrations based on band type, position and depolarization values will be presented. Using our assignment and previous data collected for $N_{2}H_{4}$, the observed Teller-Redlich products agree well with the calculated values. Several bands of the infrared spectrum of the gas exhibit rotational fine structure, the spacing of which is in excellent agreement with the calculated value. The nature of specific interactions in condensed phases will be discussed.
