Knowledge Bank

Three new electronic states of NH and ND (imidogen radical) have been observed by REMPI (Resonance Enhanced Multiphoton Ionization) Spectroscopy in the region of 258 through 288 nm and assigned. The NH (ND) was produced by the photolysis of $HN3(DN3)$ (hydrazoic acid) in the same wavelength region. The observed two-photon transitions are from the $\mathrm{<mrow\; data-mjx-texclass="ORD">1</mrow>}△$ state to 3p Rydberg states. Transitions were also observed from the $\mathrm{<mrow\; data-mjx-texclass="ORD">1</mrow>}△$ state to the $d\mathrm{<mrow\; data-mjx-texclass="ORD">1</mrow>}\Sigma \ast$ state. The assignments for the new states are: $f1\Pi (3p\sigma )$ at $86378cm-1,g\mathrm{<mrow\; data-mjx-texclass="ORD">1</mrow>}△(3px)$ at $88140cm-1$ and $h\mathrm{<mrow\; data-mjx-texclass="ORD">1</mrow>}\Sigma (3px)$ at $89531cm-1$. Rotational constants (B and D) and, where possible, vibrational spacings for the thirteen observed bands are also determined
