Abstract

The far infrared spectra (600 to $75 cm^{-1}$) of a series of crystalline n-dicarboxylic acids, $COOH(CH_{2})_{n}COOH$ for $n = 3$ to 8, have been obtained mostly in vaseline mulls with the aid of a Perkin-Elmer Model 301 Spectrometer. These spectral data were used in conjunction with the infrared and Raman data previously $reported^{1}$ to verify and extend the interpretation of the crystalline n-dicarboxylic acids. The far infrared spectra of the series $COOH(CH_{2})_{12}COOH, CH_{3}(CH_{2})_{12}COOH$, and $CH_{3}(CH_{2})_{12} CH_{2}OH$ have also been recorded. The skeletal vibrations observed in this region for this series appear to confirm the recent calculations of $Okada.^{2}$
