Abstract

The far infrared spectra (600 to 75cm−1) of a series of crystalline n-dicarboxylic acids, COOH(CH2)nCOOH for n=3 to 8, have been obtained mostly in vaseline mulls with the aid of a Perkin-Elmer Model 301 Spectrometer. These spectral data were used in conjunction with the infrared and Raman data previously reported1 to verify and extend the interpretation of the crystalline n-dicarboxylic acids. The far infrared spectra of the series COOH(CH2)12COOH,CH3(CH2)12COOH, and CH3(CH2)12CH2OH have also been recorded. The skeletal vibrations observed in this region for this series appear to confirm the recent calculations of Okada.2
