Abstract

The ν1 fundamental band of $ HNN^{+} (\nu_{0} = 3233.954 cm^{-1})$ has been detected using a color center laser and the same modulation method that was used to measure the ν1 band of HCO+: velocity modulation in an AC discharge.HNN+ was observed in the flowing AC discharge with a H2/N2 ratio of 10/1 and a total pressure of $\sim$1 torr. A total of 43 lines were measured and a least squares fit was used to determine the molecular constants ν0, B,D, B, and D. The HNN+ spectrum could also be observed in a HH3/H2 discharge where the suppression of natural lines using this modulation technique is clearly demonstrated. Supported by NSF Grant # CHE-8207307
