Abstract

Using the technique of Fourier spectroscopy in conjunction with a large Pfund cell arrangement,1 we observed the vibrational fundamental transition (DLnU = 1) of the NH radicals emitted in the spectral range of 2800cm−1∼3400cm−1 by low pressure electronic discharge. The NH emission was found in the discharge of air, N2 and NH3, and in particular it became a predominantly strong band over the entire infrared region in air and N2 discharge once a small amount of Hydrogen was introduced into the gas. The study of this molecule is considered important because this free radical was in fact generated by electronic discharge in the low pressure environment similar to the upper atmosphere. Our discussion will be on the spectral analysis performed on the obtained NH infrared data.
