Abstract

“The usual group-theoretical methods for the interpretation of the vibrational spectra of gaseous molecules and pure crystals will be extended to include the spectra of dilute substitutional impurities in crystals. In particular, the selection rules for the impurity problem will be derived - including cases of ``lattice combinations’’. Some examples from the recent literature will be considered.”
