Abstract

The emission spectra resulting from collisions of $He^{+}$ with the rare gases Xe and Kr have been measured in the range from 30 to 850 nm using an ion beam apparatus. From a detailed spectral analysis, the total emission cross sections were measured. These were corrected for cascading from higher lying states to yield cross sections for direct formation of each individual state of the radiating species. These data provide a basis for determining selection rules applicable to curve crossings from the $HeR^{+}$ $(^{2}\Sigma^{+})$ incoming state to higher lying $HeR^{+}(^{2}\Sigma^{+})$ product states $(R = Xe, Kr)$.
